Tour description

Visit the magnificent House of the Parliament and The Hungarian State Opera. Get to know the reason, why the cross on the top of the Hungarian crown is not straight. The Hungarian Parliament is the 3rd largest Parliament building of the world. During this tour, you will have the chance to see first the very richly decorated Staircase, later on the Cupola Room, where the Hungarian Crown Jewels and the Hungarian Holy Crown can be found. After visiting the Session Room, then take a short walk passing the district of Leopold to get to the Opera House. The tour continues with visiting the interior of the Opera House made by famed architect Miklós Ybl in neo-renaissance style. Construction began in 1875 and, despite minor delays, was completed nine years later. The opening night – to which Emperor and King Franz Joseph was also invited – was held on 27 September 1884. The gala performance, conducted by Ferenc Erkel and his son Sándor, featured the first act of Bánk Bán, the overture from Hunyadi László and the first act from Lohengrin. Each year, thousands of tourists visit the building to take in one of Budapest’s most impressive 19th century national monuments.
